Original handset matches nicely. Original swiss rivet w/65 endlinks. Clasp is dated 1958. Bracelet shows light stretch. A very pleasing and original example of a 5510 Big Crown.In 1958 the Submariner 5508 was released as an upgrade of the 6536/1 with a 1530 calibre movement replacing the previous 1030 movement. The first edition of the 5508 did not show the depth rating on the dial and the new bezel was introduced with square-shaped numerals, as opposed to the earlier round ones.

The ‘Explorer’ Dial is a moniker earned due to the luminous Arabic 3-6-9 dials that owe strong resemblance to the smaller brother Rolex Explorer I.
Movement: Automatic. Dial: Spider black lacquer. Case: 37.5 mm. diam., inside case back stamped 5510, 1.1958. This is the blueprint for the modern Rolex Submariner. An early execution of the Rolex Submariner Ref. 5512, with gilt dial and two lines of text. All the lume on the dial and hands is original. The bezel with the red triangle at 12 and hash marks to 15 is all original as well. This fantastic Rolex James Bond comes on a stretchy rivet oyster Rolex bracelet with Big Logo clasp and date marks of 1.59. Incredible piece of Rolex history!
